CSA is an abbreviation for "Community Supported Agriculture", and what comes in this box is locally grown 100% organic fruits & veggies.
After watching Food Inc, and reading a few books by Michael Pollan including Food matters and An Omivors Dilemma, I have become disgusted by the way in which our food comes to us.
Anywho without getting on my soapbox, our CSA box is one of the smartest ways we spend money! The benefits of supporting locally farms, enjoying produce that kicks butt compared to its store counterparts, & organic produce is awesome. Plus Jackson has even gotten on board and is so excited when daddy brings home the box :)
Each box is $17 a week and you can chose weekly or every other week pickups. There are a number of pick up points in the area. We go to one in East Sacramento. Each box comes with a newsletter and includes recipes (really helpful with some of more exotic items!) Full Belly Farms is the farm we belong to. They even supply a lot of our favorite restaurants with local organic produce! They serve the San Francisco Bay along with Sacramento & Davis area. They also have organic wool, unpasteurized apple juice, organic eggs, flowers & meats. Look them up on Facebook or check out http://fullbellyfarm.com/
One other cool thing is that it has simplified much of my shopping. I no longer have to search for produce, its all done for me. Each box also comes with garlic, onions & sometimes a fresh herb....check it out!!
Loves carrots!

Spinning the lettuce with daddy
Notice the black "tasting" plate. Everything Nic chops, he places some pieces on this plate for Jackson to taste. A great idea!
A little train ride after dinner :)
