Laguna Beach

In July we headed down to Laguna Beach for a few days with Nic's family. We were there to celebrate Nic's Grandma Barbara's 80th birthday! We had a great time relaxing and spending lots of time on the beach. We were also able to meet up with 2 of our friends who used to live in Sacramento which was an extra fun BONUS!! So great to see you Cec & Brian! Jackson was an absolute dream on the car ride down and pretty much the entire trip! We are so lucky he just falls into his normal sleep schedule where ever we go!! Yay Jackson :)

For her birthday we had a wonderful dinner on the grounds of the Pageant of the Masters. We enjoyed looking at the beautiful pieces of art and Jackson even got to make a cool ceramic vase. He did a great job and it is proudly sitting on my mantel. The rest of the family attended the {Pageant while we went back to get ready for Disneyland the next day!! Happy Birthday GGB! We had a wonderful time celebrating with you!!

CSA Box

Wednesday has suddenly become one of my favorite days. This is the day we get our CSA box! Wondering what the heck a CSA box is?!

CSA is an abbreviation for "Community Supported Agriculture", and what comes in this box is locally grown 100% organic fruits & veggies.
After watching Food Inc, and reading a few books by Michael Pollan including Food matters and An Omivors Dilemma, I have become disgusted by the way in which our food comes to us.
Anywho without getting on my soapbox, our CSA box is one of the smartest ways we spend money! The benefits of supporting locally farms, enjoying produce that kicks butt compared to its store counterparts, & organic produce is awesome. Plus Jackson has even gotten on board and is so excited when daddy brings home the box :)

Each box is $17 a week and you can chose weekly or every other week pickups. There are a number of pick up points in the area. We go to one in East Sacramento. Each box comes with a newsletter and includes recipes (really helpful with some of more exotic items!) Full Belly Farms is the farm we belong to. They even supply a lot of our favorite restaurants with local organic produce! They serve the San Francisco Bay along with Sacramento & Davis area. They also have organic wool, unpasteurized apple juice, organic eggs, flowers & meats. Look them up on Facebook or check out http://fullbellyfarm.com/
One other cool thing is that it has simplified much of my shopping. I no longer have to search for produce, its all done for me. Each box also comes with garlic, onions & sometimes a fresh herb....check it out!!

Loves carrots!

Spinning the lettuce with daddy

Notice the black "tasting" plate. Everything Nic chops, he places some pieces on this plate for Jackson to taste. A great idea!

A little train ride after dinner :)

Sailing

On Sunday Nic sailed on Lake Clementia with my cousin Ryan. Jackson played in the sand while my Aunt & I chatted on the shore. Pretty cool this beautiful lake is right in our backyard! I love summertime!! Nic is in the yellow life vest.

Laguna Beach

We are in the middle of our trip to Laguna Beach & Disneyland. The weather is awesome and we are having a great time!!
Jackson has been such a good traveler. The car ride down was effortless. We left at 4am while Jackson was still sleeping which was perfect. We stopped once for breakfast (drive thru) and we made it in 6 hours with no potty breaks or other stops. Before the trip, I prepared little prize bags for Jackson for every hour we were in the car. I also got him a small timer to help understand when the next prize would happen. This was one of my best ideas!!!! So much fun :)
We are so lucky that he enjoys hotels, new places & the beach as much as we do!! Here are just a few pics from our trip. We even got to meet up with some of our old friends. Happy Monday!!

Fun in the car!! He is playing on his jogger tray....great idea daddy!!

Just arrived in Laguna...toes in the sand.
